Because most airlines have blocked either Saver awards or all awards in and out of Brazil around next midsummer.
Because hotel and apartment rentals rates are astronomical even if you can find availability. That’s a big if because in many cases you can’t. As for staying for free at your favorite hotel chain in Brazil, good luck! I haven’t checked every city, but at least in Rio, both SPG properties have blocked their availability, as has Marriott.
