First thing first
I applied for the Amex Gold Delta Business Card 50,000-mile plus $50 statement credit card offer. Nailed it! I hate applying for one card at a time, as I am a creature of habit and prefer an app-o-Rama every 90 days or so. But the deal–well, both deals, business and personal–are set to expire by the end of the week, so I thought what the hell…
If you want either or both, act quickly! The Delta SkyMiles award calendar has considerably improved as of late, and besides, in less than two weeks we will be able to book a one-way flight on an award ticket.
So, my wife’s app-o-Rama? How did she do?
Around November 16th, I submitted two applications for both of us. As I said in another post, I was approved for 5 cards out of 6, (well, let’s say 6 out of 7 with this Delta card). Mrs. Lazy Travelers was initially approved for three out of five.
|Cap One Biz APPROVED||50K=$5,000||$4.5K||3/mths||None|
|Chase Sapphire Preferred CALL: DENIED||40K+5K UR points (for adding AU)||$3K||3/mths||Waived 1st Yr|
|Chase British Avios CALL: APPROVED After 4 Calls!!!||50K||$2K||3/mths||Waived 1st Yr|
|Citibank AA Biz APPROVED after the call for $1,000 CREDIT LINE!!!||50K||$3K||3/mths||Waived 1st Yr|
|Barclaycard US Air: APPROVED||40K||1st Purchase||$89|
|BoA Alaska: APPROVED||25K||$1K||3/mths||$75|
Mrs. Lazy Travelers applied for the following cards:
Mrs. Lazy Travelers App-o-Rama
|Citi HHonors: APPROVED||40K||$1K||4/mths||None|
|Chase Sapphire Preferred: APPROVED after first call.||40K+5K UR points (for adding AU)||$3K||3/mths||Waived 1st Yr|
|Chase British Avios: APPROVED||50K||$2K||3/mths||Waived 1st Yr|
|Barclaycard US Air: DENIED||40K||1st Purchase||$89|
|BoA Alaska: APPROVED||25K||$1K||3/mths||$75*|
The reason I post about my app-o-Ramas is not to brag, but to provide some data points. So here is a data point: Mrs. Lazy Travelers has the same score as I do (around 800) but lesser income and much shorter credit history.
She was initially denied both CSP and Barclays Us Air cards. Reconsideration calls are something I always dread with my wife because hates them and puts them off until the last moment–which, in this case, was the 29th day after the application.
However, unlike my experience, her Chase reconsideration was quick and painless. We moved around some credit from her other lines, and that was all it took.
Her attempt to reconsider the Barclays US Air card denial was unsuccessful. She was told that the denial couldn’t have been overturned because she already had the same card. Which is total BS as you and I know, but whatever. I brought up an idea of making another call, but she gave me this look… 🙁
Anyway, 4 out of 5 is a rather good result, I’d say.
Stephan from Rapid Travel Chai and his reader Carol have generously offered to share four Delta drinking coupons for a giveaway to my lucky readers. I will send them in pairs, to give you a choice of:
a) taking the edge off with two drinks,
b) sharing a drink with your travel partner, or
c) offering one to a [hopefully] cute seatmate.
Please share in the comments what miles/points-related toast(s) you are going to drink using these coupons. Since this is my first giveaway, I just copied Stephan’s T&C. Hope he will forgive me.
